For years, the shorthand on Corte Madera has been that it is the shopping errand between somewhere and somewhere else. You come down from Mill Valley for REI, you come up from Sausalito for Nordstrom, you leave. That shorthand is about to stop working. The fall 2026 lineup around Tamal Vista, Town Center, and The Village adds a family Italian restaurant, a chef-led Vietnamese counter, a European performance-footwear flagship, and a nine-week weekend music program, all inside roughly a mile of each other.
The point of this post is not that new tenants are exciting. The point is that the pieces arriving this fall change the shape of a Corte Madera weekend for people who already live here. You can eat, browse, catch a set, and be home in time for the dog, without ever pointing the car toward the bridge.
A new address on Tamal Vista
The most substantive food news of the summer belongs to Melo's Italian Table, which is slated to open at 55 Tamal Vista Boulevard, led by Gaetano Piccolo along with John Paul, Erin, Erica, and Olga Coelho Piccolo, and business partner Dominic Cianfarini. The paperwork is not aspirational. The site is confirmed through a California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control license filing, which is the kind of document that surfaces only when a lease is real.
The kitchen at the current East Bay location runs handcrafted pizzas, house-made pastas, fresh salads, and Southern Italian entrées, and the Calabrian family history is not window dressing. For Corte Madera, the interesting layer is location. Tamal Vista has been a corridor of specialty retail and quiet office space, not a dinner destination. A full-service Italian restaurant on that block is the first credible reason to walk east from Town Center after 6 p.m.
A Town Center bet that reads differently up close
At the other end of the fall calendar, Asian Box is set to debut at 100 Corte Madera Town Center this fall. Fast-casual arrivals rarely earn their own paragraph, but this one is worth the ink. The chain was founded in 2011 by Chad Newton and his wife, chef Gracie Nguyen, with a menu of gluten-free, customizable Vietnamese-inspired street food built on sustainably sourced ingredients. Nguyen's background is not from the fast-casual playbook. She trained in fine dining, and the operation was built by a hospitality group with real restaurant provenance.
What that means for a resident: the counter that opens next to REI this fall is closer in DNA to a chef restaurant than to a chain. It is the kind of tenant that anchors a lunch routine rather than filling a gap.
Why On picked 1702 Redwood Highway
The retail note that reframes the season is quieter. On, the Swiss performance-footwear brand, will arrive at 1702 Redwood Highway, Space 039, in September, as one of four new California stores announced in a company press release. The other three are San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles.
That is the sentence to sit with. A brand with a global network and a very deliberate real-estate strategy put Corte Madera on a shortlist with three of the largest markets in the state. The store is planned as a 4,000-square-foot retail space, which is flagship scale rather than a satellite footprint. Read against The Village's existing anchor mix, described by the center itself as including Nordstrom, Apple, Alo, RH Marin, lululemon, Lucid, Vuori, Aritzia and Williams Sonoma, On slots in as a category peer, not a fill-in.
For a resident, the practical effect is that you can now buy a running shoe fitted by the brand that made it, in the same trip as coffee and groceries, without a bridge toll.
A weekend program that runs for nine straight weeks
The most under-marketed piece of the fall is a program the shopping center is running for free. Town Center's Fall Music Series brings live music to the center on weekends from September 24 through November 20, featuring local musicians. It opens on Saturday, September 24, from 12 to 3 p.m. with the Dave Rocha Jazz Trio.
Nine weeks is unusual. Most Marin outdoor music programming ends by Labor Day. A jazz set that runs into late November is a genuine reason to pick Town Center over a longer drive, and it lines up neatly with the arrivals above. A Saturday in October now looks like: farmers market leftovers, Fieldwork pint, live trio, a browse at On, dinner at Melo's.
The Wednesday middle-of-the-week anchor
If the Saturday version of Corte Madera is getting louder, the midweek version has quietly been holding its ground. Town Center's farmers market runs every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the center court. Wednesday markets are a resident tell. Weekend markets are for visitors; a Wednesday afternoon market survives because people who live nearby actually stop by on the way home. Combine that with the arrival of Melo's on Tamal Vista and a routine appears: pick up produce Wednesday, use it Thursday, eat out Friday, walk to music Saturday.
The bench the new arrivals are being added to
None of this fall's news lands in a vacuum. Corte Madera already has a working restaurant bench that reads like a much larger town's list. The Burmese and South Asian eatery Burmatown carries a Michelin Guide listing. Zinz Wine Bar sits downtown, Fieldwork Brewing operates inside Town Center, Cafe Verde Pizzeria is next to Town Park, Boca Pizzeria works the fire-roasted angle, and Pig in a Pickle handles the slow-roasted meats. Add Super Duper Burgers, now open with a drive-thru location, and the town has quietly assembled a full range of casual to serious dining inside a walkable footprint.
The fall additions do not replace anything on that list. They complete a gap. There was no full-service, family-scale Italian on Tamal Vista. There was no dedicated Vietnamese counter at Town Center. There was no performance-footwear flagship at The Village.
The story of Corte Madera this fall is addition, not turnover. Very few Marin towns are absorbing category-defining tenants without losing the ones already there. That is the number worth watching.
